Pines, Loakan E/S top Panagbenga cheerfest

PINES City National High School used its familiarity of the mat while Loakan Elementary School simply wowed the crowd to top the 4th Panagbenga Cheerdance Festival as a special production of Ads Central.

With its Panagbenga inspired theme and dance choreography, PCNHS was practically the all judges’ choice.

PCNHS bested other participants in the high school division despite falling short of retaining its title in the other cheerdance competition, which was held last February 21, edging St. Louis Pacdal High School.

Doña Aurora High School came in third in the event backed by Smart Telecommunications, CDO Foodsphere, Effects Graphics Creation, Picture City, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Pepsi and Benguet Laboratories.

Pines took home the P10,000 grand prize, while St. Louis–Pacdal and Doña Aurora settled for the P5,000 and P3,000 cash prize shouldered by CDO Foodsphere.

In the elementary level, Loakan Elementary School bested San Vicente and Quezon Hill for the top prize of P10,000 while San Vicente and Quezon Hill bagged P5,000 and P3,000, respectively, in the event also backed by Gifts Remembered, Sky Cable, and Bombo Radyo.

Also supporting the event was Meridian Paramedical and Technical College who gave out ten scholarship grants chosen from the participants in the tournament, Studio 1 and Cordillera Knights.

With the success of the event, the Department of Education is considering cheerdance as part of the regular school activities all throughout the country. (Roderick Osis)
