THE Cebu Landmasters/Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles and the Tough Gear/Southwestern University (SWU-Phinma) Baby Cobras are in a must-win situation against separate foes in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Partners Cup 2019 at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym on Saturday, July 13, 2019.
SWU-Phinma will try to keep its playoffs hopes alive when it faces the regular season defending champion, the Hotel Fortuna-backed University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters.
The Baby Cobras have a 3-4 (win-loss) slate and hope to end the elimination round on a winning note to get a chance for the last playoff ticket. The Junior Webmasters, meanwhile, have a 5-2 record and are also aiming to end the elimination round on a positive note.
The University of the Visayas (UV) already secured the top spot and the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four after beating the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, 72-70, on July 11, 2019.
The Baby Jaguars also secured a spot in the Final Four with a 6-2 card, while UC is also safe with 5-2 card regardless of the result on its last game.
With one slot left for the Final Four, it will be a race between SHS-AdC and the Baby Cobras.
SHS-AdC will have a way lighter task as it faces the winless UC-Lapu-Lapu Mandaue, an expansion this season. SHS-AdC holds a 4-3 card and a win will seal the final four spots.
The top two teams in the elimination round will enjoy a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinals, which starts July 29.
In the collegiate division, the Joemang Surplus/UC Webmasters will battle the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Panthers, while the Cebu Landmasters/USC Warriors face off with the defending champions ARQ Builders/UV Green Lancers.
Unlike the juniors, the collegiate division follow a double-round robin format. (RSC)
