Public told to prepare for water cuts ahead

SOME 60,000 to 80,000 businesses and households in Davao City will be affected by water interruptions in the last week of July, as projects that aim to improve water supply for the growing population of the city will be implemented.

The operation will affect the Line 2 of Dumoy system, covering the areas of Ma-a, Panacan, Sasa, and downtown areas like the whole stretch of Quirino St., Bankerohan to corner J.P. Laurel, Marfori St., and others that are mostly comprised of big and small firms.

Davao City Water District (DCWD) spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod said there will be advance announcement for at least five days or earlier for households and businesses.

The recovery period, she said, after the eight to 12 hours operations will take two to three days.

Dumoy system has a total of 135,000 service connections in the city, around 13 percent of this are commercial establishments.

Meanwhile, Duhaylungsod said with the growing interests of investors to the city, they need to continuously improve their service by developing more water sources.

"One of the considerations of businessmen is water. This is why we have the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project. But aside from that, we continually develop other sources because the bulk water project alone cannot supply our hundred percent need," she said.

She said they have been listing down investors in the city that are applying for condominiums and subdivision for their possible water demand.

As per initial evaluation of DCWD, the city has the capacity to supply more establishments especially with the additional supply from the water bulk project, which is targeted to be completed in the first half of 2021.
