Trader hits news source against New Clark City

ANGELES CITY -- A prominent businessman in Pampanga has warned the source of a news report which may affect the P12-billion New Clark City project of the National Government in Capas, Tarlac province.

Rene Romero, president of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham), has stressed the implications of the news item against the ongoing smart city project being implemented by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

Without identifying the news source, Romero said the people of Pampanga and Central Luzon will blamed him if the project is hampered.

Romero was referring to a news item stating that some Aeta residents in Capas town are being displaced by the New Clark City project.

"If the project fails, we will blame him. The project is being implemented smoothly. Why is he putting bad light about the project? What is his intention? We are warning him because what he is doing is not right," the business leader said.

The country relies on this big ticket project being pursued by the Duterte Administration under its Build Build Build infrastructure project, according to Romero.

"For many months, I do not hear any complaints from our brother Aetas," he said.

New Clark City, which is situated inside the Clark Special Economic Zone, has a total area of 9,450 hectares and is expected to accommodate 1.2 million people once completed.

As a president of PamCham, Romero said he is in constant communication with BCDA officials particularly President Vince Dizon and CDC head Noel Manankil about the ongoing NCC project.

"When they make a decision and action, they always consider the plight of our brothers the Aetas because they know that they should help these indigenous peoples," the businessman said.

From the businessman's point of view, Romero said the residents around the New Clark City including the Aetas should be happy because they will directly benefit from the project.

"Their place will become a progressive city. At present you can see that the Aetas have no permanent area because of development. But with the project, the government will provide a permanent community for them," Romero said.

Even Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade also made an assurance that no residents around the project site will be displaced by the ongoing project, he added.
