Jose Mari Chan launches residential project in Bacolod

BACOLOD City is now enticing more businessmen to invest here because of its rapid business growth.

And one of them is the singer-songwriter and businessman Jose Mari Chan, who launched his family’s residential subdivision project and opened their commercial center in Barangay Mansilingan on July 8.

Chan, president of Morning Glow Development Corp. (MGDC), along with his family, and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia led the groundbreaking ceremony of their family-owned 10-hectare Villa Florencia Subdivision in Murcia Road, Barangay Mansilingan as well as the blessing and opening of the Villa Magdalena Commercial Center.

Marie Angelica Chan, sales and marketing director, said the Villa Magdalena Commercial Center is composed of 23 units and it’s for rent.

“Aside from it, we also have our affordable housing project here. My father is an Ilonggo and he wants to support the community in Bacolod,” she said.

She added the construction of the housing project started in 1990s and its full blown operation started in 2014 and it increased their sales in 2016.

Aside from Bacolod, the Chan family also has residential projects in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental and in Iloilo City.

Jose Mari Chan said they are also looking for some other areas here in Bacolod to build more residential projects.

“Rather than investing in other places, you start at home. If the business is thriving, it means the investors are confident with Mayor Leonardia and his administration. If you don’t trust the city government, then you will not venture here. It is a credit to him that this will continue, and I hope that there will be more entrepreneurs that will come up here,” he said.

In 2018, Chan has been named as honorary mayor and adopted son of Bacolod.

For his part, Leonardia said that Chan is an extraordinary and a rare breed.

“That is what we want to stay in society, people who are already supposedly rich and still working that hard not exactly just for profit, but carrying for society like the housing projects. So we would like to salute Mr. Chan. I look at him as a role model for the Philippines, how I wish that his strive will continue to increase,” he said.

He added the residential project of Chan family is significant in the area of Barangay Mansilingan and it will stimulate more growth in the area. (MAP)
