DepEd urged to craft Nutrition Month programs, activities

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Bacolod to prepare programs and activities for all students, both in public and private schools, in celebration of Nutrition Month this month.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Israel Salanga, was approved during the regular session on Wednesday, July 10.

Salanga said it is necessary for the city’s public and private schools to have programs and activities as a means of creating awareness to students by making them interact and sense the importance of nutrition.

“This year’s Nutrition Month theme is ‘Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo, push natin ito!’ encourages everyone to advocate and realize the consumption of healthy diets, increased physical activity and reduced sedentary behavior,” he said.

Salanga added that Presidential Decree No. 491 also known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines was passed last June 25, 1974 in order for the country to address malnutrition and in the same time making nutrition as a top priority of the Government.

He said Section 7 of the Nutrition Act declares the month of July as Nutrition Month for the purpose of creating greater awareness among the people on the importance of nutrition. (MAP)
