JUSTICE may be elusive, but the basketball friends of the late Roldan “Pangkoy” Lagbas will remember the former Cagayan de Oro College varsity standout-turned Misamis Oriental Provincial Board member with a basketball game on Saturday, July 27.

Former Claveria town mayor Rocky Calingin, among the close friends of Lagbas, said the venue of the annually-held “Pangkoy Cup” Death Anniversary Games will be announced later.

It will feature selected players from Ballpals and Subokin who are known friends of the local cage icon.

“Kabalo kita nga si Pangkoy sa Ballpals ug Subokin ball clubs gyod ga-devote sa iyang time sa dula nga basketball. So, manghinaut kita nga kadtong mga close lang gyod niya ang maka-participate sa anniversary games,” Calingin told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.

Ballpals commissioner Andit Mendoza may tap Dencio Villamor, lawyer Dong Bonete, Wingmark Mercado, Jojo Udasco, Stev Panaz, Wyndel Efren, Balong Mabalot, Winnie Daba and Michael Pamisa among those to play the likes of Subokin regulars Charome Marte, MisOr PB Boboy Sabal, Kokong Quiblat, Entot Puertas, NokNok San Jose, Arvin Martinez and Calingin.

Roldan’s son with Susan, Dodan Lagbas--the 2014 Jolas Cup MVP who once donned the Cebu’s South Western University Cobras jersey—may reinforce Subokin’s friendly match with Ballpals.

“Simple activities lang gihapon atong pagahimoon. Bisita sa iyang lubong sa Oro Garden then balik for the games probably at 2 p.m. before sa ginagmay nga salo-salo ug bonding-bonding,” added the “Amazing” Marte.

The late Lagbas was among those who perished in the infamous 2013 bombing incident outside the mall in Cagayan de Oro that claimed the lives of six persons and injured 37 others.
