A BIGGER and better third season of the Cebu Architects’ Basketball Club (CABC) Corporate Cup unfolds on July 14, 2019 with more teams and a new venue.
From six teams last season, eight teams will duke it out for this year’s crown. The games will be played every Sunday at the tournament’s new home, the Cebu Port Authority basketball gym.
“We have grown to eight teams from the previous two tournaments of just six. A lot have inquired about it. This is our way to get to know each other and this is our form of camaraderie,” said CABC president Klein Baladya.
The eight teams will be named after their major corporate sponsors—AAC Blocks, Cebu Home Builders, Landlite, Davies, Boysen, Pioneer Pro, Build Rite and IEE. The tournament’s minor sponsors are Unitec Pipe, GEF, RMJ Equipment Rental, Emerald Pipe, JK7 Enterprises, Five E Plastic and Design Source.
The tournament follows a single round robin format for seeding. The top four teams earn twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals. The winners will fight it out in a do-or-die semifinal round, before the winners face off in a single game finals.
Paolo Alberto, one of the club’s officers, is encouraging all the architects who are basketball fanatics to join future CABC tournaments.
“We are encouraging all architects that want to play basketball, whether you are good at it or not, as long as you have the passion you are welcome to join,” he said. “Every year the number of architects here in Cebu increases. We encourage you to have a fun Sunday and play basketball.”
After this tournament, which will run for about three months, CABC plans to hold a pocket tournament with six teams. (EKA)
