37 displaced in La Trinidad fire

AT LEAST 37 were displaced when fire gutted a boarding house in Barangay Betag Friday afternoon, July 12, and destroyed P2 million worth of properties.

Mayor Romeo Salda said the 37 occupants of the 31-room boarding house are temporarily staying at the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Office evacuation center.

Initial report from the La Trinidad Municipal Fire Station showed that the fire was reported at 4:45 p.m. Friday. It was declared fire out at 6:40 p.m.

According to initial reports, the fire started in a room in the second floor of the two-story building.

Of the 37 displaced, 24 are aged 19 to 30 years old while the remaining are 10, 18, 31 to 59 years old.

As of Saturday, July 13, some occupants went to stay with their relatives and friends while 23 individuals are still housed at the MDRRM evacuation center in Kilometer 5, La Trinidad.

Meals and clothing were provided by the local government unit.

The fire was the 26th incident recorded since January this year and the second for the month of July.
