THE famed chicken chicharon in Luzon is now in Davao City and it is slowly penetrating the market as it gives Dabawenyos an option for unique, tasty, and healthy snacks at the same time.

Leslie San Jose, a young businesswoman, started her Chick's Butcheron early this year with only three kilograms of chicken crops, also called "butche", where clean and unprocessed food are stored and is naturally good and high in protein.

Unsure if the Davao market will embrace the product, Leslie still courageously tried starting with two flavors of crispy and seasoned chicharon, original and spicy.

"Talagang gina-grab namin ang opportunity kasi bago sya sa city at wala pang competition. Kaya kami sumasali din sa mga bazaars para makilala din siya at kung ano ba talaga ang Chicken Butcheron kasi the first thing they ask is if it's chicken skin, basically, it is not," she said.

"Mahirap siya at first kasi nga bago but we are slowly enjoying the business industry as more people came to know our product," she said.

From three kilograms of chicken butche, they are currently processing about 300 to 400 kilograms of chicken butche every week.

Leslie said venturing into the world of business, she learned a lot of important things in life than while she was working in a corporate world. It may still be a challenge to make their product fully known but the business is evidently doing well for her and her husband.

"Your character as a person is very important in the business. I also learned to have patience in doing business and you should have focus kasi pag nagkaroon ng distractions, mahirap," Leslie said.

Chick's Butcheron has no physical store yet but they deliver the products anywhere around the city through online orders in their official Facebook account or instagram account @chicksbutcheron or contact them at 0917-700-4239. The product is sold for P120 each and P100 each for wholesale price.

Leslie said some of their clients now order in bulk as pasalubong in their hometowns or abroad.

"We are ready for bulk orders. Here in the city, our ingredients are really available so we can just add more if the demand increase," Leslie said.

Presently, they are working into other flavors of the chicken chicharon to give more choices to their customers.
