Kenyans dominate Picpa 16K Fun Run

KENYAN runners showed their force in the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Pipca) Fun Run, winning the men’s and women’s 16-kilometer titles on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the Ayala Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu.

Jackshon Chirichiri breasted the tape in 56 minutes and 18 seconds to win the 16K men’s title over local runners Florendo Lapiz and Azlan Pagay, who came in second and third with times of 1:01:12 and 1:01:14, respectively.

It was the same scene in the women’s division as Naum Tepkosggi won the crown in 1:06:50, finishing more than seven minutes ahead of her closest pursuers. Cebu’s elite Ruffa Sorongon finished in second with a time of 1:13:56 and was followed by Princess Jive Borneo in 1:19:14.

In the 8K category, Ruel Algufera won the men’s division in 25:21, beating Michael Largo who timed in at 28:10 and Darwin Lucaylucay who crossed the finish line in 29:41.

Cherry Andrin stamped her class in the women’s side, clocking in 33:05 to beat triathlete Karen Manayon by a minute for the women’s crown. Angel Estillore settled for third in 37:56.

Juvan Bensig and Asia Paraasa were the fastest in the 4K race. Bensig clocked in 13:44 to win the men’s top honors while Paraasa timed in 16:48 to rule the women’s side.

Rain Del Corro and John Michael Amador came in 14:40 and 14:59 to finish as runners-up to Bensig, while Mary Joy Castor and Erian Culango finished behind Paraasa with times of 17:53 and 18:34. (RSC)
