Mankayan updates traffic rules

MEMBERS of the Municipal Council of Mankayan in Benguet approved an ordinance amending the traffic rules and regulations of the town.

To promote public safety and order, the traffic rules and regulations of the town must be amended to conform to the time, according to Councilors Sanchez Mangsi and Balodoy Totanes who co–authored the ordinance.

Based on the updated traffic rules and regulations, any person found guilty of violating the provisions of the traffic rules and regulations will be fined P200 for first offense, P400 for second offense, P600 for third offense and P600 or imprisonment of three days upon the discretion of the court for the succeeding offenses.

Moreover, apprehending officer present at the time of apprehension must issue traffic citation ticket, confiscate the driver’s license of the offender including the license plate of the involved vehicle provided that the offense resulted to damage to property, physical injuries and death of any person, the vehicle must be impounded.

The measure stated the driver’s license and license plate number will be released only upon the payment of the prescribe fines to the municipal treasurer’s office within 72 hours from the date of apprehension.

The ordinance still needs the review of the Benguet Board Members and was referred to appropriate committees during the regular session of the Provincial Board for their appropriate action.
