Dela Peña confirmed as Baguio City admin

ENGINEER Bonifacio Dela Peña has been confirmed as the new Baguio City Administrator by the city council in a unanimous vote during last week’s regular session.

Dela Peña revealed plans of action for tourism, sports and disaster and said he has already started to talk to department heads and made initial programs of action for the city.

He said for the city tourism office he has asked its head Alec Mapalo to make short, medium and long term plans for the city to be packaged as a tourist destination.

Dela Peña said the tourism office has so far been working as an event coordinator and has asked Mapalo to show the real essence of tourism.

The newly-installed city administrator revealed a general plan of action for the Disaster Risk Reduction Management committee is to capacitate the people inside the barangays to take action in emergencies by holding trainings.

“I have met also with them and our vision is to have an honest to goodness response team but we have to capacitate the people in the level of the barangay, we should conduct training, so that they will be on call,” he added.

Dela Peña said the procurement of equipment and improvement of the disaster risk reduction facilities will be in order, adding plans to transfer the CCTV monitoring to the planned command center of the city as well as to activate the 911 emergency call system.

For sports, Dela Peña said he will also push for the improvement of equipment and facilities that will further the athletic performance of the city.

“We will improve facilities in sports and next week we will have a walk through at athletic bowl and create the short, mid and long term plans for sports.”

Dela Peña was hand-picked by Mayor Benjamin Magalong for the city administrator position. (With a report from Jeremiah Pugong/UP Baguio intern)
