New police stations, more guns, bigger allowance

THE Cebu City Government will help the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) set up new police stations, get more firearms and vehicles and enjoy a bigger allowance.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said this when newly-installed CCPO Director Col. Gemma Vinluan paid him a courtesy call at City Hall on Monday, July 15, 2019.

“Our relationship with our police has to be business-friendly,” Labella said.

The mayor also told Vinluan he will give two cars to the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team as he turned over 30 sets of helmets and vests right after the visit.

In addition, he said he will give 200 sacks of rice to the police. The rice will be divided among the 11 police stations, at 10 sacks each, and the remaining 90 sacks will be for the CCPO. Labella said he will see if the City’s budget could sustain the rice assistance if given on a monthly basis.

He then told police officials the City will look for a lot for two additional police stations here. He instructed the City Treasurer’s Office to look into giving police members an additional P500 each in allowance.

With the support they are getting from the City, Vinluan said there is no reason the police cannot do their job well. “We will double the accomplishments for Cebu City. We will work 24/7,” she said. (JJL)
