PROVINCIAL Board (PB) Member Glenn Anthony Soco (sixth district) has filed a proposed ordinance which aims to raise the yearend incentives of barangay employees —tanods, health workers, nutrition scholars, animal health aides and daycare center volunteers.
Soco has reasons for his proposed increase, and he hopes his measure will be passed before the year ends.
“The honoraria of barangay workers and barangay tanods have not increased over the years despite the heavy workload they have to endure. Worse, some of them are given additional workload which are not even aligned to their current positions,” read a portion of the measure filed on Monday, July 15, 2019.
Under the proposed legislation, all duly appointed beneficiaries are automatically covered by the incentive increase.
A list shall be submitted by the respective barangay chairpersons. It should be signed by the village chiefs and all incumbent barangay officials.
The barangay must also ensure that its membership status in the Liga ng mga Barangay Cebu Chapter is active so that its workers can avail themselves of the incentives from the Provincial Government.
If Soco’s proposed ordinance is approved by the PB, a qualified tanod would receive P3,000 a month, or a 100 percent increase from the current incentive of P1,500.
The suggested annual incentive for barangay health workers, nutrition scholars, barangay animal health aides and daycare volunteers is P4,000. This is a 66.66 percent increase from P2,400.
The PB has referred the proposed measure to the committees on budget and appropriations; barangay affairs and rural development; public health and social services; budget and appropriations; and public safety, peace and order and dangerous drugs abuse prevention for further studies. (RTF)
