Squabbling Yansons join judge in private meeting; next hearing set

A CLOSED door conference was called after the first hearing on the petition for a writ of preliminary injunction filed by Leo Rey Yanson against his older brother Roy V. Yanson relative to the Special Board meeting held on July 7 that removed him from presidency of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies.

Regional Trial Court Branch 53 Acting Presiding Judge Eduardo Sayson invited Yanson matriarch Olivia and the six Yanson siblings Roy, Emily, Celina, Ricardo Jr., Ginnette and Leo Rey to a closed door conference Monday, July 15, 2019.

Ginnette and Leo Rey who were absent from the hearing joined the private meeting.

During the hearing Leo Rey represented by his legal counsels Norman Golez, Maureen Chua and Paula Labajo withdrew the petition for the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) and moved that they be given a week to file their judicial affidavit. But the judge gave them five days to submit the same.

The court also denied their motion to maintain status quo.

Golez refused to give further details on the case as they have agreed to refrain from issuing statements per order of the judge.

On the side of the four siblings, lawyer Philip Sigfrid Fortun and her partners manifested that they will also file a petition for the issuance of a TRO and injunction considering that the siblings and the matriarch were at loggerheads on the issue. He also cited the situation on Sunday, July 14, 2019 where some members of the employees’ union held a peaceful assembly at the Ceres North Terminal that disrupted their operation.

Fortun said that the court should give due attention to this concern because this involves a mass public transport that can affect thousands of passengers that patronize the Ceres liners every day.

He further said that, "We are trying to bring all parties together but if it doesn't work then there's the court of law. We try to find a way that they will come to terms. We're hoping to find solution to the problem whether in the court or they'll come to terms with each other.”

The court has set the next hearing on July 26 for an injunction sought by Leo Rey.

No media interview

Golez said the court judge has ordered them not to come out with press releases to give the family a chance to talk to each other.

"For us commenting in public may not be helpful to them," Golez said.

Fortun for his part said, "I cannot anticipate and I don't want to comment on matters because the judge said that we should not grant interviews. We agreed to that.”
