Alvarez: Growing old but not apart

Alvarez: Growing old but not apart

SO, I got a message out of the blue last week from my high school classmate, Walter Noel Buenavista. He was organizing a high school reunion and wanted to know if I could come. I told him, I couldn’t be able to make it, but he was so welcoming and wanted all of our batchmates to surely come.

That day of July 13, 2019, although I am programmed not to attend because of a busy schedule, I felt the eagerness to join. I arrived late at 10 p.m. and I can say that there was a mixture of excitement and anxiety to reunite with former classmates, closest and old friends that I have not seen for more than 20 years. Thanks to Marmee, Maureen, and Aldwin who insisted for me to join the special occasion. Now, I have the most wonderful experience!

The reunion I can say is a significant event that one should be eager and positive to attend to. No matter how busy you are, finding time for this once in a lifetime get-together is worthwhile. This is not an occasion to show-off one’s achievements as most misconceived, but it is a day to feel youthful once again, reminisce the past and laugh for those awkward and painful experiences, and most of all rekindle the joyful memories. We may not bring the old days back but the memories we have made will live in our hearts forever.

I could have missed the beautiful encounter if I have not come. It doesn’t matter who was the drunkard, class clown, bookworm or the most intellectual during our high school but the fact that in our younger years, we grew together, our roots will always be connected. So, for those who are so busy or reticent of joining memorable reunions, remember that there are so many wonderful reasons for you to be a part of it. So, don’t miss this once in a lifetime aspect of our life journey.

Twenty years could change a lot. I even did not recognize some but meeting up with high school friends gives us a little piece of the past back. And it is nice to go back to the people who were there at the beginning of our lives. Batchmates, let the stars in the sky keep track of us. Let us continuously ride our own orbits and trust that they will meet again.
