ORGANIZERS of the Kadayawan Innovation Camp 2019 is calling on potential technology entrepreneurs in Davao Region to create solutions to social problems through the use of technology.

The event is a weekend bootcamp and hackathon dubbed as “Lumloman sa Dakbayan” which will focus on topics that are in line with blockchain, artificial intelligence, big data, analytics, robotics, internet-of-things, and cloud computing.

“These technologies will be applied in the fields of tourism, agriculture, transportation, environmental sustainability, and disaster risk reduction. This is a start-up event that will give chance to the potential tech entrepreneurs or aspiring young entrepreneurs in the region to ideate, create, and innovate solutions,” University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) AGILab TBI engineer Franch Maverick Lorilla said during Habi at Kape media forum Wednesday, July 17.

The event will also cater technology business incubators (TBIs) and their start-up ideas to be mentored and have access to funding.

The event is organized by USEP AGILab TBI, Developers Connect (DevCon), University of Mindanao (UM), Department of the Information and Technology (DICT), and Kadena Hub.

The competition is open to individuals and teams with tech ideas addressing challenges of the priority sectors. The submission period began last July 2 and will end on July 21.

As of now, there 26 individuals and teams have already shown interest, however, the organizers are hoping for more feedback.

On July 26, qualified ideas will be announced online. There will be a pre-hackathon event at UM-Matina campus on August 9, first day of Hackathon at Kadena Hub on August 10, and the Pitching Event will be on August 11 at Kadena Hub.

Top three winners will be selected during the Pitching Event on August 11 which will received P15,000 and US$1000 AWS Credits for first prize, P10,000 and US$1000 AWS Credits for the second prize, and P5,000 and US$1000 AWS Credits. AWS credits are applied to bills to help cover costs that are associated with eligible services.
