Dondon lifts ‘94 to Division 1 finals

BATCH 1994 overcame a twice-to-beat disadvantage after beating the Batch 1997, 69-53, in Game 2 of the semifinals in the Don Bosco Cup 2019 on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the Don Bosco Technical gym in Labangon, Cebu City.

The No. 4 seeded Batch ‘94 registered another win against No. 2 seeded Batch ‘97 to book the last ticket in the Division 1 Finals. Batch 94 also won Game 1, 64-55.

Former PBA star Dondon Hontiveros had another stellar performance with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. The Ex-San Miguel Beermen had 14 points and 24 rebounds on their semifinal game.

Vincent Raymund Escobido scored 14, Vincent Ian Brigoli added 11, while Rammel Guimbarda and Gunther Seroy chipped in eight points each for Batch ‘94.

Giovanni Canceko finished with 16 points and Wado Gica added 12 in a losing effort for Batch ‘97.

Batch ‘94 will face the No. 1 seed Batch ‘98 in the Finals, which starts on Sunday, July 21.

In the Division 2 action, the Batch 2008/2009 also pulled off an upset by beating the higher-seeded Batch 2004/2005, which has a twice-to-beat advantage.

Batch ‘08/’09 won the semis series with a 78-66 triumph in Game 2.

Sam Parcon and John Velasco put on a scoring tear with a combined effort of 40 points, Danilo Belangel added 14 points, Chito Solis chipped in 12 points and Noel Daigo pitched in eight points.

Bertoni Salazar and Jestoni Santos each had 17 points for the losing team.

Batch ‘08/’09 will play the top-seeded Batch 2015 in the championship match. (RSC)
