COUNCILOR Philian Weygan–Allan said no new permits will be issued to roving vendors in Baguio City.
“The agreements after the meeting were no more new permits to be issued but we will maintain the registered 750 listed roving vendors in the barangays and Burnham park... as vending is not allowed in the CBD especially the market,” Weygan–Allan said.
Weygan–Allan, who chairs the committee on market trade, commerce and agriculture, said the meeting was attended by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Councilors Elaine Sembrano and Joel Alangsab, and members of Baguio City Market Authority, the City Treasurer, City Environment and Parks Management Office with the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) and the Market Supervisor.
Allan said there were more than 100 unregistered roving vendors who attended the meeting at City Hall last week and it was agreed that the vendors will comply with the requirements and regulations of their special permit.
Weygan-Allan said it was also agreed that the POSD can use its power to “press charges to those who are violating the conditions of their special permit and when found guilty can be fined with P1,000 to P5,000 and or imprisonment.”
At least 600 vendors attended the meeting.
Previously, barangays where the vendors will be allowed to sell include DPS Compound, Marcoville, Palma-Urbano, Del Pilar Street, Gen. Lim, Segundo Street, Bucaneg St., Legarda Rd., right side of Kisad Rd., Leonard Wood, Aguinaldo Park perimeter fence, turning point along Gibraltar Rd., Lower Magssaysay, Bokawkan Rd., T. Alonzo, New Lucban, City Camp district, BGH Compound, Phil-Am, Lourdes Proper including grotto, entire stretch of Naguilian Rd., Campo Filipino, Military Cut-Off, Alfonso Tabora, Trancoville, Cabinet Hill Teachers’ Camp, Kayang Extension, and the rest of the residential barangays listed under the 128 barangays in Baguio City.
Vendors are not allowed to conduct vending along the frontages, sides of the private or public buildings, parks, streets, roads, alleys, or any space in barangays within the central business district.
However, vendors may be allowed to sell inside the private or public buildings or properties located in the prohibited areas provided there is certification or clearance issued by the building owner or administrator.
The certification will be used as basis to issue a special permit and an identification card.
