Torres: New town center now at 20 percent

GUAGUA, Pampanga -- Mayor Dante Torres said the new town center in Barangay San Antonio near the Jose Abad Santos Avenue is at 20 percent, as the town made a head stride in the acquisition of the land where the new town hall will be erected.

Torres said the plan will decongest the town area of Guagua, as basic government services of the municipal government would be moved into an area that can accommodate vehicular and foot traffic.

He added that this means better planning could be implemented in the old town center, with the removal of offices that generate much of the traffic and parking space.

“This is the new way to go. I hope to accomplish this probably by the end of my term,” Torres told SunStar Pampanga.

Torres said other line agencies attached to the municipal government will also be moved to the new location, which he plans to expand into a five-hectare property. Torres said the municipal government is set to donate a piece of land to the Philippine National Police for the construction of their own municipal police station near the planned municipal center.

He said the property is located at the government center in Barangay San Antonio, near the offices of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The old town hall building will be converted into other cultural or academic uses, according to Torres. He added that a legislative building for the town council is also in the works.
