'Falcon' leaves P7.1M damage to Negros Occidental crops

THE monsoon rains brought by Tropical Storm Falcon has caused an estimated P7.1 million worth of crop damage in Negros Occidental.

Based on the data forwarded by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, the towns of San Enrique, Valladolid, and Bago City suffered from the storm's onslaught.

A total of 399.50 hectares of farmland were damaged in Valladolid, wherein around 279 farmers were affected and the damage was estimated at P2.6 million.

The neighboring town of San Enrique, meanwhile, reported that 276.56 hectares of rice fields worth P1.5 million were damaged.

Bago City also has estimated crop damage of P2.9 million from around 416.14 hectares of farmland.

Valladolid Mayor Enrique Miravalles said the rainfall was so heavy on Tuesday, July 16, and that farmers and fisherfolk in their town were affected.
