6 hurt in Zamboanga Sibugay highway accident

SIX people were injured when the commuter van they were riding fell on its side along the highway of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Friday, July 19.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 7 a.m. Thursday at Purok 3 in Bulaan village, Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez identified the victim as Randel Viñas, 43; Ronel Ricapente, 29; Erica Mansalino, 25; Army Rose Pacatang, 55; Rodrigo Pagara, 64; and, Gena Mae Magtortor.

She said investigation showed the victims were aboard a passenger van driven by Viñas that fell on its side after he lost control of the steering wheel.

The police officer said they were traveling to Buug, Zamboanga del Sur coming from Pagadian City at the time of the incident.

The victims were rushed to Saint John General Hospital in the town of Buug for treatment, she added. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
