Fire razes noodle factory



THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Davao said an estimated P3 million worth of properties were damaged after a massive fire engulfed a noodle factory in Kilometer 14, McArthur Highway, Toril, Davao City on Thursday night, July 18.

Senior Fire Officer 2 (SFO2) Ramil Gillado, BFP Davao chief of the intelligence and investigation section, said Friday that the involved establishment was Cheekees Pancit Canton. The factory was already closed when the incident happened.

The fire started at 8:24 p.m. on July 18 which resulted to one building destroyed and another building damaged.

Gillado said based on the report, the fire originated at the production area of the business establishment owned by Julilie Espera. It took the firefighters more than an hour to contain the fire. They declared fire out at 9:54 p.m.

No casualties were recorded during the incident.

In the first half of 2019, BFP 22 reported that a total of 266 fire incidents in Davao City with around P47 million in damages.

Gillado said fire incidents caused by electrical problems continue to be the main cause of fire incidents in Davao City, followed by an open flame and improper disposal of a cigarette butt. (JCR)
