Nalzaro: Dino’s sudden change of stand on the BRT

If a fool is known to you, then only you can avoid an argument with him. If it is sudden and somewhere beyond your knowledge, then you have to argue for some time. When you are satisfied that your opponent is bombing you with absurd and irrelevant replies, it’s time for a humble submission.

I would like to address this message to a former city councilor who lost in the recent elections. This guy has not been able to move on after his defeat. He is now like a mad dog that is barking at everybody. He has been attacking me on social media and in his block-time radio program, blaming me for his debacle last elections.

I would not dignify his attacks against me. Anyway, nobody will believe him. He has zero, as far as credibility is concerned. That is why the voters “vomited” him in the last elections because he did nothing during his incumbency. I would like to suggest to this guy to consult a psychiatrist because I suspect there is something wrong with his mind.

I will just be wasting my precious radio time and my space here if I answer him. People like him deserve no attention.

Why is there a sudden change in the stand of Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)? Was it because of the system or was it because of the person behind it?

It was “has-been mayor” Tomas Osmeña’s initiative to put up the BRT system to solve traffic congestion in the city. Dino was moving heaven and earth to block the project, claiming it is not feasible because of the city’s narrow roads where the BRT system will traverse.

In a published report in The Freeman on July 21, 2017 entitled, “BRT debate reaches Duterte,” Dino admitted sending a letter to President Rodrigo Duterte, asking the chief executive to restudy the P16.9-billion project that he said “won’t solve the city’s traffic problem and is not financially feasible.” Dino said he is not asking for the cancellation of the BRT project, contrary to his earlier pronouncement to the media. Instead, he just wants it reviewed.

Dino, who was advocating for the Light Rail Transit, said the BRT is not the best mass transport system to decongest Cebu’s traffic. He said it is just a total waste of effort, time and money as it will be a total disaster for Cebu and thus has to be stopped.

Osmeña, Dino’s nemesis, was able to obtain a copy of the letter. He reacted by saying, “The world is made up of two kinds of people: those who try to move ahead and those who try to destroy. These people (Dino and others who object to every project of Osmeña) are trying to destroy.”

Now, how come Dino has changed his stand? He is already amendable to the BRT system, but modified the system’s route. From the original starting point in Bulacao to Talamban, traversing N. Bacalao Ave., Dino wants the starting point to be at the South Road Properties then to Osmeña Blvd., to Capitol, Escario and then to the IT Park. The new route will cut the cost of the project as there is no need to widen N. Bacalso Ave. But what about Escario St. and the other streets? Di na siya supak karon kay aprobado naman sa National Economic and Development Authority and Department of Transportation. Pero kon si Tomas pa gihapon diha sa City Hall, iya gihapon ning supakon.
