CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella is asking the City Council to pass the P455 million supplemental budget for the financial assistance of more than 75,000 senior citizens in the remaining six months of 2019.
The fund for the P1,000 monthly aid for the beneficiaries was already distributed in June before the term of then mayor Tomas Osmeña, Labella’s predecessor, ended at noon of June 30.
There is no budget yet for the cash aid for July, August, September, October, November and December.
City Treasurer Jerone Castillo said the regular distribution of the financial assistance to the senior citizens is among Labella’s top priorities.
However, the senior citizens could not get the cash aid if the City Council would refuse to pass the supplemental budget as there is no more available fund.
Labella promised he would seek other ways to deliver the financial help to the elderly residents, saying the City has other budgets for projects intended for the welfare of the residents.
The mayor said he would announce in the coming weeks the specific date the senior residents could get their financial assistance. (from PAC of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
