Coffeeteria: A cup of joe with a dose of education

People have different sentiments about coffee. Whether calling it God’s nectar or the devil’s water—especially when a fight ensues over who deserves the last cup—it’s not just a trend but a lifestyle. It’s a lifestyle that Paul Queriza grew to love so much that he studied it. Together with his wife—who, he shared, spearheaded it—and fellow partners, they founded Coffeeteria. The café opened August 2018. From the word itself, coffee takes center stage, highlighting Arabica beans from Brazil.

But while coffee may be the focal point, Coffeeteria also serves non-caffeinated drinks, tea and comfort food. The place aims to provide a homey space where people can enjoy their food and drinks while doing their own thing, whether it’s work or just catching up with friends over board games, which are also available at the café.

“What I want for customers is for them to experience the taste of coffee and how it should be prepared, rather than just making it for you just for the sake of getting your money,” shared Queriza, who wants to impart a little knowledge from the making of the coffee to the different kinds of coffee. “The more you’re interested in coffee, the more I would like to answer your questions. It makes me happy knowing peope have, at least, information about it.”

That’s why, apart from it being spacious, the open kitchen concept of the café serves as a way for barista and customer to have a better interaction.

Find Coffeeteria on the second level, North Agora Minoza St. in Talamban and enjoy coffee with bonus coffee tidbits during your visit. It also sells merchandise like metal straws in different sizes as well as collapsible cups. You can even take home a free bag of used coffee grounds for your garden, or for a little pampering session at your home.

Coffeeteria is open from 3 p.m. to 12 midnight on weekdays and open from 1 until 11 p.m. on weekends.
