Mayor orders creation of clearing operation task force

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has ordered the creation of task force that will work on clearing the Mambuloc Creek in barangays 10 and 12.

Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, cluster head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), said the clearing operation order came after the demolition of the illegal structures at the creek.

The task force will be composed of DRRMO, City Legal Office (CLO) Enforcement Unit, City Engineer’s Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

On July 11, the CLO-Enforcement Unit started the demolition of 33 houses that were constructed along the creek considered as danger zone.

The CLO also asked the assistance of DPWH to remove some of the concrete structures in the area.

Vargas said they will continue to remove illegal structures in the area as well as garbage to ensure the continuous flow of water in the creek.

“We will clean the whole area of Mambuloc Creek in Barangays 10 and 12 as well as in the areas of Barangays 2, 8 17, and 18,” he said.

Vargas added that they want to increase the holding capacity of the creek to ensure that the water flows towards the sea.

The official asked the cooperation of Bacolodnons not to dump their garbage on Mambuloc Creek to prevent flood especially during this rainy season.
