VARIOUS peasant and progressive groups in Negros Occidental will hold rally against the State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, July 22.

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) - Negros, in a press conference at the Negros Press Club in Bacolod City yesterday, said about 3,000 rallyists will gather at the city public plaza marching from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon.

They will end the rally before President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his fourth Sona.

Butch Lozande, chairman of the National Federation of Sugar Workers (NFSW), said they expect Duterte to highlight his plans of railroading the approval of Charter Change.

Other issues the group wants the President to mention in his Sona are on the entry and ownership of properties of foreigners, death penalty and the recent voting of the United Nations Human Rights Council against extra judicial killings relative to the administration’s war against illegal drugs.

Bayan-Negros said the rally is a nationwide activity of their organizations against the President’s Sona.

The group said they are demanding the ouster of Duterte because of rampant poverty, unemployment, killings and dictatorship of the current administration.
