THIS is in reaction to Orlando Carvajal’s Break Point column in SunStar Cebu’s issue that came out on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. It is your opinion that the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) should not come over here because we have our own Commission on Human Rights (CHR). How could the country’s CHR investigate the perceived extrajudicial killings and other human rights issues when the Philippine National Police and Malacañang are not cooperating?
In that same issue, on page 4, there is a report with a heading that says, “PNP: UNHRC can’t get war on drugs’ records.” The first paragraph reads, thus: “The Philippine National Police (PNP) will give its records on the deaths caused by its war on drugs to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) if there is an approval from President Rodrigo Duterte.” (bold letters supplied for emphasis).
This is the reason Iceland took the initiative to investigate the alleged abuses and killing spree because the country’s CHR is being intimidated and run roughshod by this government! If a higher body like the UNHRC of which the Philippines is a member country, is not respected and welcomed by the Duterte administration, who else?
Be circumspect and balanced in your opinion. Your true color as Dudirty’s minion is showing through. Why be afraid of any investigation if you are not guilty? In life, there are two guiding principles that every one of us should adopt: “If your conscience is clear, you have nothing to fear.” and the second is, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but ugly words and false accusations will never hurt me!” And what did Jesus Christ say? “The truth will set you free.” Good day!
