THE Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation has asked the Cebu City Government not to stop the P2,000 financial assistance the latter extends to members.
SK Federation president Jessica Resch, ex-officio city councilor, sponsored a resolution that will provide SK councilors, treasurers and secretaries in Cebu City’s 80 barangays a monthly allowance.
“SK officials having financial independence also means having heavy loads of paperwork to comply with requirements set under Republic Act (RA) 10742 (or the SK Reform Act of 2015),” a part of the resolution reads.
Resch said SK officials are not entitled to receive any monetary allowances from their respective barangays, but they are not prohibited from seeking assistance from the local government unit, based on RA 10742
Resch also cited Section 324 (c) of RA 7160, which states that in the case of provinces, cities and municipalities, aid to component barangays shall be provided in the amount of not less than P1,000 for every barangay.
Resch said there is already an appropriated budget in the approved Cebu City Annual budget for 2019.
Resch said the City has been supportive in the implementation of projects, activities and programs initiated by the youth federation. (JJL)
