CEBU (Updated with correction) -- A jeepney driver was killed while seven others were injured in a vehicular crash involving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) last Saturday dawn, July 20, 2019, on Gen. Maxilom Ave. in Cebu City.
Carlo Singcol Gahator, 24, was pulling out of the gasoline station when the SUV driven by Angelo Rey Leyon Guerra hit his public utility jeepney (PUJ).
Gahator died on the spot.
A motorcycle carrying two passengers was also hit by the PUJ after the impact of the crash.
Based on police investigation, Gurrea had hit another vehicle before crashing into the jeepney when he overtook the vehicle driven by John Dale Estano Alivia near the University of San Carlos North Campus.
Police believed Gurrea might have been driving too fast. That was why he crashed into the PUJ as it was leaving the gasoline station.
Gurrea was reportedly intoxicated when police arrived at the scene. He is detained at the Parian Police Station.
Gahator and his passengers were on their way home after dropping off a patient at a nearby public hospital. He stopped by the gasoline station to refuel.
Five of his passengers suffered bruises and fractures, while the motorcycle driver and a companion were also injured.
Based on records of the Cebu City Transportation Office, Gahator was issued a ticket violation for a defective headlight last Friday, July 19. (from ANV of SuperBalita Cebu/VLA)
(CORRECTION: John Dale Estano Alivia was one of the victims, not the person who rammed the jeepney as earlier reported.)
