Garbo hails kabalen’s ‘sacrifice’

WITH his mother originally from Mabalacat City, Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez gets a congratulatory greeting from this city’s Chief Executive.

Mabalacat City Mayor Cris Garbo issued a statement congratulating the newly sworn in Majority Floor Leader of the House of Representatives.

“We join the whole country in expressing congratulations to the new set of officers of the 18th Congress of the Republic of the Philippines,” Garbo said.

“We are equally proud and honored that our Cabalen, Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, for being elected as Majority Floor Leader of the House of Representatives. Rep. Romualdez traces part of his roots in this humble city. His mother is a native of Mabalacat, the former Miss Juliette Gomez,” he added.

The Romualdezes own a vintage house in San Francisco, Mabalacat built in 1934 known as “Tubigan” (irrigated land) since the 1970s. The congressman’s mother was also a recipient of a Most Outstanding Kapampangan Award for Parenthood in 2016.

“We take into cognizance not only of his leadership but also his humility where he has put high premium on the nation's future, setting aside his personal ambitions. Such move bespeaks of his nobility, sacrifice and love for country,” he said.

The congressman from first district of Leyte was reputed to be one of the front runners for Speakership, together with fellow Kapampangan Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales of Pampanga’s First District during the early race for House leadership.

Mrs. Romualdez actively campaigned for her son in Mabalacat and other parts of Pampanga when he ran for Senator in 2016.
