Cases filed vs 2 suspects in fatal robbery in Villanueva

THE two motorcycle-riding suspects who were responsible for the killing of a security guard and wounding of the cashier of a gasoline station in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental over the weekend are facing robbery with homicide and robbery with frustrated homicide charges.

Police said Reymark Pumatong, 27, resident of Dayawan, Villanueva town and Bernie Belen, 28, of Sta. Cruz, Tagoloan town, were arrested five hours after the robbery and shooting incidents on Sunday dawn, July 21.

Killed was Dominico Servandel, 22, resident of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental and security guard of Phoenix Gasoline Station while the cashier identified as Axcel Rose Gemino was wounded after she was shot on the face.

The guard was dead on the spot while the cashier was brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC).

Investigation disclosed that the guard was asleep when he was shot on the head. The pump boy of the gasoline station was able to witness the incident.

Authorities recovered cartridges of 9mm caliber pistol. The amount taken by the suspects from the gasoline station has yet to be determined.

The suspects were arrested at Zone 4, Barangay Katipunan, Villanueva through a hot pursuit operation.

Police said Pumatong served as gunman while his companion acted as lookout.

Hortillosa said Pumatong is also a security guard under similar security agency of the victim.

He said based on initial reports, the suspects committed the crime due to financial problems and after their security agency allegedly failed to remit their government dues.

“Naa daw kahiubos ang suspects sa agency pero padayon pa ang imbestigasyon sa kapolisan,” Hortillosa said.
