ILOILO City’s massive multi-sectoral cleanup drive against deadly dengue collected some 68 tons of waste in the metropolis over the weekend.
This was on top of the 280 tons average daily wastes being collected in the city.
The General Services Office (GSO), in-charge of garbage collection, reported that a total 67,945 kilogram of wastes were gathered from cleanup operations participated by various stakeholders. Some 2,310 kilograms of recyclable were also collected.
GSO Assistant Department Head Engr. Neil Ravena also advised residents to observe proper drop off time of waste collection in their respective areas so they can catch up with the garbage trucks.
This is to avoid problems and concerns on uncollected trash because they missed the schedule of assigned garbage trucks.
The GSO continuously acts on reported complaints of uncollected wastes with immediate deployment of personnel to clean and clear the eyesores.
Cleanup is urgent to get rid of breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. (PR)
