MAYOR Jerry Treñas confirmed Monday, July 22, that he will retain Iñigo Garingalao as Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force (Icast) executive director even if the latter vacated his post last July 1.
"Yes, balik siya sa Icast. Gintan-aw ko gid. Wala man siya nag-intra sa Pag-Ulikid (Yes, he will return to Icast. I checked it already. He did not join the Pag-Ulikid)," said Treñas in an ambush interview after the City Hall flag ceremony Monday, July 22, at Plaza Libertad.
Last July 1, Garingalao vacated his post in Icast in compliance with the instruction of the newly appointed city administrator, Melchor Tan.
Tan advised Garingalao to leave his post to provide Treñas freedom to appoint persons who will be under his administration.
Treñas won as Iloilo City mayor in the May elections against his brother-in-law, former mayor Jose Espinosa III.
Pag-ulikid sang Siyudad is a program created by Espinosa to bring the City Government’s services to the people. It has been conducted in barangays.
Garingalao, the nine-year Icast head, was reassigned to the office of Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo.
In an interview with the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps at the City Hall’s media lounge, Garingalao said Treñas instructed him to continue the anti-smoking advocacy.
“Kay Mayor Treñas is our leader. Kabalo gid siya sang proteksyon gid sa kabataan sa constituents naton sa siyudad (Because Mayor Treñas is our leader. He knows the protection needed for our youth, the constituents of the city),” he said.
He said the order is for him to reconstitute the Icast office, and the mayor sought to reach the barangay level to educate them about the advocacy. (SunStar Philippines)
