DPWH urged to put big inlets in Lacson drainage project

BACOLOD City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to put big inlets in the drainage projects from Lacson Street to Mandalagan Bridge.

Gasataya said Monday, July 22, 2019 that this is also one of the recommendations of Pertconsult International, a drainage master plan consultant for Bacolod, who held its public consultation with the stakeholders as well as city and barangay officials at the Bacolod Government Center last week.

He said it has been observed that the area has big concrete pipes but its inlets are small.

“So we should repair these to prevent floods during rainy season in Lacon Street,” he added.

Gasataya noted that Pertconsul already presented its study for the drainage master plan in Bacolod.

DPWH had earlier allotted P16 million for the study but this was reduced to P14 million.

The budget covers the consultancy work and the preparations of the feasibility report.

Gasataya said with the comprehensive drainage master plan they can improve drainage systems both in national and local roads.

“This will be our basis for the conduct of rehabilitation or construction of drainage system in Bacolod,” he said.

He added the drainage master plan will greatly help in mitigating the flood problem in various areas of Bacolod and he is hopeful that within a moth, Pert Consultant will release the comprehensive drainage master plan.

Once it will be released, Gasataya disclosed that the DPWH will immediately start the implementation of the drainage master plan in various areas.
