Wearing Kapampangan

MANILA. Former President and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo donned a pidayit gown by Kapampangan designer Philip Torres at President Rodrigo Duterte’s 4th State of the Nation Address. The gown was inspired by Aetas of Pampanga. Pidayit is a form of upcycling scrap materials. Senator Imee Marcos also walked the red carpet dressed in Mak Tumang, the same designer who won acclaim for his Mayon gown worn by Miss Universe 2019 Catriona Gray during her coronation. Tumang named his creation for Marcos “La Filigrina”, inspired by Philippine crafts and jewelry, with its gold tambourine swags and medallions accentuating the sunset ombre “solihiya-inspired” fabric. The designer added that his creation meant to inspire the viewers “to look beyond political colors.” (Contributed Photo)
