College teacher, drug surrenderer busted in Leyte



A FEMALE college instructor and a drug personality were arrested in a drug bust in Matalom, Leyte over the weekend.

Authorities identified the suspects as Mary Jane Laroa, 23, single, a licensed teacher, and Kevin Lalic, 21, jobless, a drug surrenderer.

Joint elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Philippine Army in Eastern Visayas, along with Philippine National Police in Matalom, arrested the two suspects in Barangay Sta. Fe in Matalom around 9:35 p.m. Sunday, July 21.

Purchased and confiscated from the suspects were eight sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P6,000, and drug paraphernalia.

The suspects will be charged with violation of Section 5, 11, 12, and 26, Article II of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, police said. (SunStar Philippines)
