Alama: Mindanao Film Fest calls for entries



THE time of the year has come when regional filmmakers start grinding to transform their stories into films.

And with it the Mindanao Film Festival, one of the longest-running regional film festivals in the country, is now accepting submissions for this year’s film festival which takes the theme: “Our Mindanao, Our cinema”.

The theme encapsulates the aspirations of our foundation (Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation Inc.) to have a sustainable regional cinema, the creation of a regional movie industry which serves as the platform of being a Mindanaoan.

Films for consideration are full-length, documentaries, short films, student films, and animated short films that are made by Mindanaoan filmmakers or films about, related or shot in Mindanao.

All genres are welcome. Film projects must have been completed anytime within October 2018 to October 2019.

Deadline for submission of film entries is on October 10.

The Mindanao Film Festival is a seven-day festival which features a one-week theatrical run of selected films at Gaisano Mall Cinema in Davao City, it usually held on the first week of December.

One of the highlights of the festival is the Awards Night which fetes outstanding work for films entered in the festival.

One of the activities in the MFF will be the pitching event of the Southern Voice Laboratory (SOVOLAB) where selected filmmakers from Mindanao will pitch their films which are chosen a finalists of the SOVOLAB. Top two pitches will be the recipient of a filmmaking grant of P1-million each for filmmakers to produce their full-length films.

The Film Festival is supported by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Film Development Council of the Philippines and Gaisano Mall Cinema.
