THOUGH every individual is unique, people are more often than not brought together by hobbies, common interests or genuine friendships.

This was the case for these musicians who are a part of famous local bands: Dingle Dino and Franco Alvarez, together with Al Ryan and Jayson Jay Gahiton’s love for music. Their strong friendship and advocacy encouraged them to open a clothing brand, Suspect, and a concept store, Tagoanan.

With the tagline “Suspect Everything,” the clothing brand aims to promote self-awareness with a wise and informed voice through its astute shirt designs that brings everyone back to the ‘90s when everything was less complicated and carefree.

“In this day and age of social media, we would like to encourage everyone to suspect everything and find out the truth in this world full of fake news,” shared Dingle. “We also want our customers to express themselves and create their own identity to stand out among the rest,” Franco added.

Besides Tagoanan being the sole distributor of Suspect Clothing and Reefside Surf Co. in Cebu, it houses goods from different local brands from around the country as well, featuring products that cater to people who are into skateboarding, trekking, camping and surfing.

The name Tagoanan means hideout or den in Cebuano, and the store is just that for its patrons. The inspiration behind the name Suspect was the Cebuano word “Suspitsado,” a term of endearment for bands and bandmates who used to hang out at The Backyard Project Studio the likes of Franco, Urbandub, Smooth Friction, Powerspoonz, The Ambassadors, Capsule, Sheila and the Insects, Hardwood, Junior Kilat, Disco Assassins, Happy Days, Kandangyan, The 6G Family and Dice and K9, to name a few.

Tagoanan is located in Mango Square Mall, Juana Osmeña St., and is open every Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 9 p.m.
