Huwamiko: Hassle-free fashion

SHARING has never been a bad thing, even more so when the intention is to spend less on the basics like public transportation, accommodation, food or a working space. You get good service while splitting the bill with your mates.

The same principle applies to fashion. Although shopping can be fun, buying an outfit for that one special occasion—which you’ll less likely wear on a daily basis—is impractical.

Here’s an idea. Why buy when you can rent? That is what rental service Huwamiko has in store for its guests: a platform to rent clothing items for special occasions, taking away that burden of having to commit to an item you’ll only wear once. The brand was founded by Punky Oliverio, together Sheila de la Cruz and Melodie Arriba, who gathered last February to come up with this venture.

It was not only their intention to make the search for items easy for women given their schedules but also to address environmental concerns.

“We all know that our biggest concern is sustainability and the environmental impacts of fashion, so we wanted to create a brand that doesn’t create more waste thus, clothes-sharing through leasing,” shared Oliverio.

Huwamiko offers formals gowns and dresses, office clothes and clothes for special occasions, continuously adding more options to their wardrobe every day. Accessories are also available.

“We make most of them ourselves and we have opened our wardrobe to other designers who wish to consign their garments with us.”

It promises a full service. To do so, you register on www.huwamiko.com and provide them a copy of a government-issued ID. Making a reservation three days before the event is highly encouraged. Patrons can expect their items delivered to them, after which they pick it up themselves and handle the after-care.

“Huwamiko is a Modern Cebuana’s BFF. We are a glamorous girlfriend, someone they can rely on in the many events of a woman’s life,” added Oliverio. (MRL)
