TWO drug suspects were killed in two separate anti-drug operations conducted in Leyte and Southern Leyte Wednesday, July 24.
Authorities identified the slain suspects as Joel Jundis, 41, from Hilongos, Leyte, and Robert Garcia, 38, from Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte.
Police said Jundis, who has been considered by Hilongos police as a high value target, drew his gun and fired three times at arresting cops after sensing their presence during the operation around 4:10 p.m. in Barangay Tagbibe, Hindang, Leyte.
A 16-year-old female drug suspect from Hindang town, who was with Jundis during the drug bust, was arrested.
A police agent bought from Jundis was one big sachet of substance believed to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P500.
Recovered during the operation were six heat-sealed sachets of substance believed to be shabu worth P200,000, one P500 marked money, a caliber .38 revolver loaded with ammunition, and a fired cartridge of caliber .45 pistol.
Jundis was pronounced dead at the crime scene by Dr. Estarmico Zafico, municipal health officer of Hindang, a nearby town of Hilongos.
The minor drug suspect was brought to Hindang Municipal Police Station and will be turned over to the municipal social welfare and development office.
In Maasin City, anti-drug and police operatives from Maasin City and Southern Leyte Provincial Police Office shot and killed Garcia after the latter fired his gun toward the cops during a drug bust in Barangay Combado around 7:20 p.m.
Police said Garcia was previously arrested for the violation of Republic Act 9165 but was able to avail himself of plea bargaining.
Cops bought from Garcia 10 sachets of shabu.
Confiscated from the suspect were six sachets of shabu, a caliber .357 revolver loaded with three live ammunition and two fired cartridge cases, two fired cartridge cases of an unknown caliber, one unit Samsung cellphone, one rosary, one cellphone charger, a brown pouch and a driver’s license.
