Sungduan: Yesterday, today, tomorrow

ALMOST six hundred Cordillerans based in the different parts of the world gathered together for the celebration of the 1st International Grand Cañao of the Bibak Association of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.

Dubbed “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, the event which is also the 25th anniversary celebration of the popular Cordilleran group showcased three major activities that made each attendee feel at home and even more proud of their cultural heritage.

BIBAK Association of Manitoba President Virginia Gayot said the celebration was divided into three parts with the ‘Meet and Greet’ Welcome Party held at the Philippine Canadian Cultural Center, Winnipeg as the first segment.

The second part was the Grand Cañao Conference with Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary Ana Marie Rafael Banaag serving as the speaker for the event.

The group’s Vice President Marife Cadag said this was immediately followed by the Cultural Gala Night featuring entertainers like Bryan Aliping, Meggs Meru, Conrad Marzan, Alex Pomar del Rosario, and other Cordilleran artists.

The gala also featured the cultural presentations from Benguet, Ifugao, Mt Province, Apayao, and Kalinga which also enjoined the audience to participate.

Another highlight is the fashion show featuring the unique and beautiful designs of different Igorot attires, bags, and apparels. The youth also flaunted their talent in music by singing popular Cordilleran songs.

The last part of the activity was the memorable picnic at the Pine Falls where everybody participated in the Cultural dances, games, and entertainment.

The story of the successful activity attended by guests in United Kingdom, Australia, Netherlands, Philippines, USA, and other provinces of Canada which include British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan was also published in a local paper in Manitoba.

For the last 25 years the BIBAK Association of Manitoba has been very active in promoting the Cordillera culture and tradition to the Filipino-Canadian community. An effort which was commended by leaders in the Philippines and Canada.

May the group continue to inspire other Filipino organizations abroad in pursing efforts for the promotion, preservation, and revitalization of the Cordillera culture.
