Mayor to police: Stop child trafficking

CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella has ordered the Cebu City police, especially the anti-trafficking council, to be stricter in their fight against child trafficking.

“We have to be very relentless in the same manner that we are relentless in our fight against criminality and illegal drugs, we have to be relentless in our fight against trafficking,” he said.

Labella met with the inter-agency tasked to handle trafficking cases Friday morning, July 26, a day after the arrest of Europol's most wanted sexual offender, Nelson Turayno, was announced to public.

Turayno was arrested in Barangay Luz, Cebu City, in April for producing and distributing child sexual exploitation materials on the dark web. Authorities said Turayno had abused numerous Filipino children.

Labella commended the authorities for Torayno's arrest, saying it is a good development.

He said this will encourage others to really stop trafficking.

“We will not stop. We will continue until these culprits (traffickers) will be put to jail,” Labella said. (JJL)
