Benguet suspends wearing of skirt uniforms

FOLLOWING reported dengue cases in Benguet Province, Governor Melchor Diclas have asked all public schools to suspend wearing of skirt school uniform in all elementary and secondary schools.

On July 23 through memorandum circular no. 04 s.2019, Diclas ordered all public schools district supervisors and principals to suspend wearing of skirt school uniform in the province during rainy season upon the recommendation of the Provincial Health Office.

“A regular school activity to eliminate all possible mosquito breeding sites in all areas of the schools was also advocated to support the intense campaign for the prevention and control of all vehicular-borne diseases,” the memo added.

Provincial Health Office data shows that there are 451 reported suspected dengue cases from January 1 to June 15, 2019 with a 30.34 percent increase as compared to last year's 346 cases with five deaths.

Earlier, Provincial Health Officer Nora Ruiz reiterated the practice of 4s to combat the spread of Dengue namely; the Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Self-protective measures of using mosquito repellant and wearing long sleeves, Say yes to fogging, and Seek early consultation when signs of the disease appear.
