Mayor Samsam tows Raptors

THE Wolves bucked a slow start to sneak past the Hawks, 70-66, in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu City Season 15 on Friday night, July 26, 2019 at the Visayas Glass Gym in Guadalupe, Cebu City.

The Wolves trailed the Hawks by 13 points, 37-24, at halftime following a slow 24-24 start in the opening period.

The Wolves found their rhythm in the third quarter, scoring 20 points while clamping down the Hawks to only nine points to trim down the deficit to two points, 46-44, heading in the final period.

The Wolves continued their fine play in the payoff period, scoring 26 points against the Hawks’ 20 to complete a come-from-behind four-point win.

Ervin Lopena led the way for the Wolves with double-double of 23 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ervin Badrina pitched in 19 and Michael Duran handed nine.

Rob Abayon paced the losing team with 17, Jamez Truz contributed 10 and Gary Gonzalez finished with nine.

The Wolves bagged their second win in six games, while the Hawks dropped to an even 3-3 (win-loss) card.

In the other game, the Raptors only needed a strong first quarter surge to tame the Scorpions, 91-77. The Raptors took the lead for good after a dominant 25-6 start in the opening period.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. filled the stat sheets for the Raptors with 23 points, four rebounds, five assists, one steal and a block.

Reymond Jimenez put up 22 points, Jonas Panerio added 17 and Adrian Monteclar handed 14 for the Raptors.

Paul Torrecampo led the Scorpions with 21 points, Germaine Guarisma added 19 and Archie Dungog had 18. RSC
