2 cops hurt in highway accident

TWO policewomen were injured when the vehicle they were riding crashed on a coconut tree in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the victims as patrolwomen Shiela Marrie Dominguez Barrios, 31, and Jessa May Tumimang Anal, 26, both of Liloy Municipal Police Station in Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez said the incident occurred at 10:55 p.m. Thursday along the national highway in Lipakan village, Salug town.

She said investigation showed the two were aboard a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that fell by the roadside and crashed on a coconut tree after Barrios lost control of the steering wheel when one of the front tires exploded.

The two were traveling from Dipolog City en route to Liloy at the time of the accident, Galvez said.

She added the two policewomen were rushed to the Sindangan District Hospital by concerned citizens for treatment. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
