City councilor seeks probe on ONA birth certificate issue

AN ANGELES City councilor has called for an investigation regarding the reported failure of the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA) to release the birth certificates of almost 3,000 kids born in the public hospital.

Councilor Joseph Ponce said when he assumed office as a member of the city council, he encountered a lot of parents asking assistance to have copies of the birth certificates of their children.

Ponce said he received complaints especially during the opening of classes for grade school with birth certificate as one of the requirements for enrolment.

He said the birth certificates of the kids, whose parents and relatives incurred balance in their hospital bills, are being held hostage at ONA.

As the chairman of committee on Human Rights, Ponce said he will not allow these children to be deprived of their rights especially on education.

Ponce said he found out that since 1991, there are almost 3,000 unreleased birth certificates at ONA.

Ponce said he immediately filed a resolution requesting ONA to release all birth certificates.
