Sara warns public vs online lending company

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio warned the public against an online lending company that is using her photo in their online post to entice clients, saying she is not connected to such a firm.

In a statement issued Sunday, July 28, Duterte-Carpio cautioned the public against being duped by their too-good-to-be-true offer using her name and her photo.

“This is to alert the public about an online lending company that illegally used my photo to apparently deceive the public into believing that I am an endorser of their service,” she said in the statement.

She added, “I am not associated with PesosPh or other online lending companies that offer the public fast cash loans with exorbitant fees and interest.”

The photo of Duterte-Carpio, illegally used by PesosPh, has been making the rounds on social media. It shows the city mayor in her pink government uniform showing a piece of paper, in an attempt to deceive the public into availing of PesosPh services.

Duterte-Carpio said she had posted the original photo on her Instagram account when she placed her bet for the P800-million jackpot of 6/58 UltraLotto game in one of the outlets along Mabini Street in October 2018. She posed while holding her receipt of the lotto game.

"Madali para sa mga tao na mag-access ng utang, anumang oras, kahit saan. Kunin ang iyong cash loans sa 5 min,” PesosPh stated in its online post.

The PesosPh urged the public to “send online and apply quickly" to have a chance to avail of loans amounting to P300,000, P500,000, P800,000, P1 million, and P2 million.

“The public is both warned and advised to be always circumspect in dealing with individuals, groups, organizations, and companies that are using my name in their business,” Duterte-Carpio said.

Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio called on the public to report to the authorities should they be duped by this scheme.

“I strongly recommend for the public to immediately report to the PNP or NBI fraudulent businesses or those that use my name to further their illegal activities,” she said.
